Wolverine State Archaeological Society (W.S.A.S) was founded in 1982. The Society is incorporated as a non-profit organization under the laws of the State of Michigan. The Society brings together amateur and professional persons interested in learning about, studying, collecting, and preserving knowledge of archaeological sites, cultures, religions, and artifacts of the prehistoric Indian.

W.S.A.S Encourages members to

  1. Study archaeology and Indian history of Michigan
  2. Keep accurate records of all discoveries
  3. Promote the preservation of archaeological sites.
  4. Promote Indian relic collecting and cataloguing of artifacts so that collections will be of scientific importance.
  5. Discourage the spread and inclusion of fraudulent artifacts in collections
  6. Cooperate in salvage archaeology
  7. Encourage publication of useful reports of archaeological interest.

With the help of members from 16 state societies we publish the CENTRAL STATES ARCHAEOLOGICAL JOURNAL four times per year. (view selected journal articles)
