The Central States Archaeological Societies, Inc. is a non-profit organization and has no paid officers or employees.

Our mission is to develop a better understanding among professional and non-professional collectors of archaeological material, students, museums and institutions of learning, and to further this understanding by providing a means of publishing articles of interest by both professional and amateur archaeologists.

With the help of members from 19 state societies we publish the Central States Archaeological Journal four times per year. (view selected journal articles)

See the current calendar of events which includes show and State Society meetings.

Your Central States Archaeological Journal is more than just a magazine, more than the leading archaeological publication in the United States.

It is the voice of you -- the members. It is your means of reporting that important site or discovery that you have made. Too often a great discovery is not reported and the information and history are lost forever. Perhaps the piece you found might be the missing link that some professional archaeologist is looking for. It could be the direct tie-in to another report that is more important than you realize. Use your Journal by sending good clear photographs and reports to your Editor-in-Chief.

Webster says a magazine is “a periodical publication”. He says a Journal is “a record of events.” Well, perhaps we are a bit of both, but mostly we record the discoveries and events of our members. I always think of a magazine as a publication that accepts advertisements and publishes just about everything. We do not print advertisements and only print articles and photos pertaining to archaeology. Since we have no advertisements, our only source of revenue is from your dues.

This journal is the fruit of the labors of many. From your efforts at photography and writing, the editor’s job of putting it together, to the addressing and mailing, many hours are involved. We hope you are proud of it. All it costs is $21.00 per year for a membership in your society. The Journal is sent to you free if you are a member of one of the affiliated Central States Societies. Can you find a better bargain? Can you afford to be without it?
