This banner was pictured in the July 2007 CSAJ (Volume
54., Number 3 Page 125 ) However, the back side has never been shown.
As can easily be observed, the hole has been broken out. The hole
shows signs of copper residue, as if a copper rod or tube was inserted
at one
time. In a conversation with David Lutz, author of The Archaic Bannerstone,
he mentioned that this was the first time he had observed this in
a bannerstone hole. Is it a unique specimen or something that just
hasn't been
observed before? Perhaps there are others out there? It's time
to start looking at the perforations of bannerstones in a new way
and see if there are really some new discoveries.
