Big Eddy”— Parkin Punctate Style Vessel
This Mississippian period Parkin Punctate type vessel was recovered intact at the “Big Eddy” site in Cross County, Arkansas many years ago. It is 5-1/2 inches wide, 4 inches high with rounded bottom. It is beautifully crafted with double strap or loop handles for suspension. It also has widened protrusions on the rim that are perpendicular to the strap handles that were presumable for “lifting” with the thumb and forefinger. The punctate impressions around the bowl are very distinct and uniform indicating great care and pride went into making of this vessel that dates to around 1200 to 1600 AD. Wendell, Frainey and Carson previously collected the vessel. It is now in the Ron Harris collection at Hickory, North Carolina. Photo by Ron Harris.
